In 1994, the band used the name "Rocket Baby" to compete in a local battle of the bands. The band won the contest. After the contest, the three decided to forget university, quit their jobs and change the band name to "Muse".
Before adapting the name "Muse", the band changed its name a number of times such as: "Gothic Plague", "Fixed Penalty" and "Rocket Baby Dolls".
